It is the month of November and we are close to the end of the first semester. I am happy to say that so far I have managed to stay on pace in all my classes. There are only two classes that I really struggle with and they are Physics and Precalculus. I struggle with these because the math involved with them is really challenging and the ideas and concepts you have to learn and remember are really complex. My senior project is coming along fine. I have mostly everything done and all I need are a couple more journals, add some pictures, and update a couple of things. I learned from my job shadow that the career I originally kind of planned for is something I probably won’t pursue. While it is still an option for me I’m looking more into the Fire Academy at the COS Hanford campus. So far my plan is to attend Porterville College, in which I’ve already submitted an application for, get my general education out of the way, take an EMT course, and then go to COS Hanford and join the Fire Academy. Another option I’ve been looking into is becoming a Pararescue Jumper otherwise known as PJ’s. Basically they are field medics who fly in on helicopters and extract the wounded and keep them stabilized until they make it back to base. I recently found out about them when I was watching a documentary series called “Inside Combat Rescue.” Even if things still don’t go according to plan or if there are circumstances that prevent me from becoming a firefighter, then my back up to my backup plan would be to join a Police Academy. I feel like I’ve already learned more than enough educational wise so I’m not too keen on going on to a 4 year university. The only college I’ve applied for is Porterville College. Right now I’m a part of the wrestling team but I don’t know if I’ll stick with it because my workload between classes and practice is overwhelming. So I may have to give it up in order to keep my grades up. Especially since my classes are pretty much all college prep courses. The one thing that excites me about being almost done with high school is that I will finally be independent. Of course I’ll still get financial help from parents but every choice I make will be mine. The classes I take in college, the direction I want to go towards in terms of a career, and finally getting my license and being able to work. I’m looking forward to see how the rest of the school year goes and whether or not I’ll still have the same goals or something different. It’s always best to have backup plans and to plan ahead just in case things don’t happen the way you want them to. An adaptable plan will always be a working plan.
